What is a Pessary?

A pessary is a silicone device that fits into the vagina to help support a pelvic organ prolapse. A pelvic organ prolapse is defined as the symptomatic dropping of one or more of the pelvic organs (bladder, womb, rectum). They can give symptoms of heaviness, vaginal bulge, perineal pressure, lower back/pelvic pain and can cause difficulty in emptying the bladder or bowel. Problems such as repeated force like a chronic cough or constant straining due to constipation can gradually worsen this laxity over years (not just one or two bouts of coughing or constipation, but continuous difficulty in going to the toilet).

Alongside pelvic floor exercises, weight loss and other lifestyle adaptations, a pessary can be very effective in alleviating the symptoms of a pelvic organ prolapse. They can be worn all the time, or used just when symptomatic, such as when exercising. Our pessary specialist, Emma, will discuss your personal needs and match you with the right pessary management programme.

Menopause supplements now available to order!

These supplements have been designed by Hazel Hayden a qualified menopause specialist and founder of Bristol Menopause. Hazel made it her personal mission to develop multiple menopause supplements that would be revolutionary not only for the patients in her women's wellness clinic but also within the menopause market. Her aim was to help support women's health and wellbeing during all stages of the menopause and provide suitable supplements for every step of the way.

Hazel believed in developing something that was non-controversial that the body could process properly, as there are many supplements on the market that are advertised as being “super” or “extra special” that contain such a large dose of the vitamins or minerals that they can actually cause side-effects as a result! The whole purpose of these products was to ease side-effects, not to create more.

Various natural supplements have been designed all with the recommended daily amount (RDA%) that the body could cope with, without causing any unwanted side-effects yet helping reduce symptoms of the menopause, work alongside HRT if needed and to make that journey much more comfortable.
A personal comment from Hazel - "I have spent the last 15 years researching and developing my expertise in Women's Health and the effects of diet, exercise, lifestyle and supplements on the perimenopause and menopause. I am passionate about women’s health and believe that no woman should have to suffer with these symptoms."
